Can God tell me who 'the one' is? Part 3 (Whatever happened to Christie?

So whatever happened to Christie and what is the moral of this cautionary tale. Well, there was a third Steve who none of us knew about and He came on December 31st, he was an evangelist and the two of them fell in love and today have 3 kids in LA. Christie is a full time pastor with her itinerate husband. One of the kids is now studying neural science at the University of Harvard and has been nominated a valedictorian.

Of course, this is not what happened! That’s what all of us, myself included, would want to have happened! The truth is, Christie went on to meet an African guy, who she got pregnant for and went from Christian believer loving Jesus, to Christian believer, heart broken by down trodden expectations. I was devastated. This once romantic story ended up with a girl going from Daniel to Steve to ‘Tatenda Onbizike omwopopopo’ (not his real name of course) and a baby out of wed lock.

Did God fail this woman? Absolutely not! He brought exactly what He said He would bring. So what went wrong! For starters, I think the prophets have been rightly told not to prophesy marriage for a very valid reason. Not because we can’t see in the Spirit who God has on the horizon but because love is such a sensitive area and God doesn’t want the blame when it doesn’t work out! All prophecies are conditional and way more complex than just “God said it so it’s going to work!”

God can prophesy kids into your life and those kids come but they’re a nightmare and one of them is bunking off of school. God can prophesy you into a new dream job that now is stressing you out. God can prophesy you into a bigger house that you didn’t anticipate you are going to have to pay more to heat up. God can prophesy you into a new car that you are going to have to pay more to fill the tank. Truth is, the things God brings into our lives that challenge us the most and yes the blessing of the Lord makes rich and He adds no sorrow to it. But that doesn’t mean sorrow and trials won’t come with being blessed. It just means whatever God blesses you with you won’t have to toil to get it but believe me when I say it's the people closest to you that God blesses you with that can cause you the most sorrow.

Christie had a revelation but we still need wisdom to navigate the supernatural invasions of God into our lives. This is why Paul prayed for a spirit of wisdom and revelation because revelation is an instant intrusion of God into your life that transforms you before your mind has had the capacity to catch up with it. It is the turnaround point that impregnates Mary with Jesus without any biological conception. Wisdom is the explanation Mary has to serve to others as to how she transformed her life so quickly. Christie’s life changed quicker than her intelligence to keep up with it. That's why we need wisdom (divine intelligence) because we need the mind of God to keep up with change at the speed of God. God will do more of that, believe me and we need to pray now more than ever for the wisdom to navigate the transformation that revelation brings into our lives.

So what happened to me? A 21 year old prophet told God He never wanted to see in the spirit again. Truthfully, I blamed myself for the breakdown in this woman’s hopes for years and indeed it would be almost 10 years before God restored my prophetic sight as I grieved too the loss of Christie’s expectation. Grieving prophets can’t see! Then one day the Lord said this to me!

“How long will you grieve over Saul, since I have rejected him from being king over Israel?

1Samuel 16:1

My years of grief broken by a God who was no longer willing to let me wallow in self pity.

“But God,” I cried, “Why would you bring the one to Christie and speak so clearly to me only for her to lose him?”

His response,

“Elijah thought he was the one until I told him I had 7000 others, Saul thought he was the one until I raised up his replacement, Vashti thought she was the one until I raised up Esther, even Adam thought he was the one but there was an Adam waiting in the wings, not a substitute player on some football pitch but a key player. Tomi for every ‘1’, I have a 1 a 2 a 3 and a 7000! And they’re all better than the 1. I don’t give you a lesser second option or third!”

All of a sudden I became like the sons in the parable of the prodigal son. Not the one that asked for his inheritance and ran away. Some of us have that elder son spirit! You know, the one that sees the prodigal son get the best cow and wonders if God has some how run out of blessings and has given the best to someone else that was meant for us! The prodigal son may have got the best cow but the truth is once it’s eaten it ceases to exist and even more than that, it ceases to be the best! God has millions of best options for you and the notion of ‘the one’ has placed you in an ‘orphan scarcity’ mentality, that somehow God has run out of ‘bests’.

“But Tomi, ‘I’ve been waiting for soooo long”, I hear you and I know it’s Christmas time and you’re waiting like Christie for love but don’t you know the scripture.

and said, "Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now."

John 2:10

In 2020, the Lord says, you are getting ready to see why I held you back from the spouse of your dreams. It was your best says the Lord but it wasn’t My best! I have let the cheap wine go first and now you will see My best wine says the Lord!
