What If God does hide Himself to tease us?

Yes, I love the song by Steffany Gretzinger that He doesn’t give His heart in pieces and He won’t hide Himself to tease us. It will always go down as an all time classic and whilst the former is true that God doesn’t give Himself in pieces, there is a question mark that hangs over the latter.

Whilst to tease has lots of negative connotations like:

‘To make fun of,’ to annoy or disturb by persistent irritating or provoking in a petty or mischievous way’

It also means,

‘To tantalise especially by arousing desire or curiosity.’

Isaiah said,

“Truly, You are a God who hides Himself, O God of Israel, Savior!”

Isaiah 45:15

David said,

Why do You hide Your face and forget our misery and oppression?

Psalm 44:24

The Bible is littered with references of the Lord hiding and the end result is people feeling quite, teased and rejected.

Why do You hide Your face and consider me as Your enemy?

Job 13:24

Have you ever been asked a question that you know the answer to?

“Who is that actor that plays in Back to the future,”

Your mind goes crazy as you know the name of the actor but your memory cannot recall it. After a while it seems as though your mind is playing tricks on you and trying to allude you of the answer to a question you have so easily answered to people in the past. It haunts you at all hours of the night because you were built to find answers and solutions, especially to questions you already knew the answer to.

This feeling, feels a lot like seeking God. In fact, God asks us questions He already knows the answers to then hides the solutions in His presence. In essence our God is a secret keeper! It’s what makes Him glorious!

It is the glory of God to conceal a matter; to search out a matter is the glory of kings

Proverbs 25:2

Whilst He doesn’t hide Himself to tease us, at least not in the negative sense of the word, He certainly hides Himself to arouse our desire and curiosity to seek Him out.

These secrets, once discovered are called revelation. Revelation is what happens when you find God. Why, because God hides the answer you are seeking within Himself. The ultimate reason God hides is because in seeking Him, you develop the fruit of the Spirit necessary for understanding His mind behind the answer. God doesn’t just traffic out answers without giving out His character behind the answer. To God, it is just as important that you get His answer as it is that you get His thoughts on the answer! He is not a talker, He is a divine communicator of supreme intelligence but also of unmatched passion and so He hides because in seeking Him out you find along the way His character, mind and thoughts and not just His answer! Also, you develop new prophetic muscles that you never had before. Asking others to interpret your dreams and visions for you is like going to the gym to lose weight but asking the instructor to run for you!

Revelation therefore is not God giving you the answer a third party answer to your question but God directly communicating the answer with His tonality, heart, and intelligence and that my friends is worth the wait!
